Tata Starbucks Plans Aggressive Expansion, Targets 1,000 Stores in India by 2028

Tata Starbucks, a strategic alliance between Starbucks and Tata Consumer Products, has unveiled an ambitious plan to expand its presence in India, targeting the operation of 1,000 cafes by 2028. The endeavor includes a workforce expansion, with the goal of doubling its headcount to 8,600. Tata Starbucks plans to extend its footprint to Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities, emphasizing the growth of drive-through locations, airport-based cafes, and 24-hour outlets. In a competitive market with local rivals like Cafe Coffee Day and Barista, as well as newcomers such as Third Wave and Blue Tokai, Tata Starbucks aims to solidify its position. The company reported a 14% YoY revenue growth in Q3 2023, reflecting a strategic shift initiated last year to cater to the preferences of the tea-loving Indian market.
