Suntory CEO Darren Fullerton Announces Retirement in 2025

Suntory Beverage & Food Oceania has confirmed that Darren Fullerton, its CEO, will retire in 2025, marking the end of a highly impactful tenure that began in 2020. Fullerton, who previously held CEO positions at PepsiCo and Winc, has played a pivotal role in transforming Suntory Oceania into a major player in the beverage industry across Australia and New Zealand.

A Transformational Leader for Suntory Oceania

Joining Suntory in 2020, Fullerton was integral to the establishment and expansion of Suntory Oceania—a $3 billion beverage giant. His leadership guided the company to become a key force in both the alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverage sectors. The development of Suntory Oceania has resulted in the company becoming the fourth-largest beverage group in the region, featuring a diverse portfolio of 40 market-leading brands. This transformation was made possible through Fullerton's collaboration with Mark Hill, Managing Director of Suntory Global Spirits Oceania.

A Legacy of Growth and Innovation

Under Fullerton’s guidance, Suntory Oceania not only solidified its position in the market but also fostered a culture of growth, innovation, and excellence. His commitment to Suntory’s core philosophy, ‘Yatte Minahare’—a spirit of aiming high and challenging the impossible—has paved the way for the company’s continued success in the region. His leadership has positioned Suntory Oceania for a bright future, as the company is set to make waves in the market in mid-2025 with an exciting launch that aims to disrupt the beverage category.

A Time for New Beginnings

After more than 12 years as a CEO, Fullerton has decided that now is the right time to begin a new chapter in his career. Reflecting on his tenure, Fullerton shared, “Working at Suntory for the past five years has been a career highlight. Being part of an organisation that aligns so closely with my values and unlocking the potential of our Oceania business has been an incredible privilege."

He also expressed his confidence in the future of the company, adding, “The creation of Suntory Oceania firmly positions the business for a strong and successful future. I know the team will continue to thrive, and I look forward to supporting the business in an advisory role.”

Praise from Suntory Leadership

Makiko Ono, President of Suntory Beverage & Food, commended Fullerton for his extraordinary leadership. “Darren has been an extraordinary leader, driving growth, innovation and a culture of excellence in Oceania. He has lived the One Suntory mindset and set a benchmark for our future global business.”

Fullerton’s Transition and Future Plans

Fullerton will continue to lead Suntory Oceania through the final stages of its creation until March 2025. After his retirement, he will transition into an advisory role. A successor to Fullerton will be announced at a later date. Suntory Oceania, thanks to Fullerton’s leadership, is well-poised to continue its growth and innovation in the coming years.

As Fullerton prepares to retire, his legacy at Suntory Oceania is undeniable, having steered the company to new heights and firmly positioned it for future success. His next chapter will undoubtedly be one filled with new opportunities, but his contributions to Suntory Oceania will be remembered for years to come.
