Spanish fruit worth AED 181 million imported by UAE

Data from the Spanish Department of Customs and Excise shows that more than 40,440 tonnes of fruit and vegetables were exported from Spain to the UAE in 2021, worth more than AED181 million.

The news comes as Fresh Food Logistics, the international gathering place for logistics, mobility, IT, and cold chain management for the food industry, which was co-hosted by Fruit Attraction 2022, the leading exhibition for the fruit and vegetable sector, held from 4–6 October, announced that it had reached 90% occupancy.

Due to Spain sending 22,827 tonnes of fruit and 17,753 tonnes of vegetables to the UAE last year, several importers from the UAE and Saudi Arabia have already confirmed their attendance at the event.

As a platform, Fresh Food Logistics is solely devoted to the distribution and logistics industry, giving businesses the chance to showcase their services, goods, and solutions to the global fruit and vegetable market. Although the platform will have its own identity and exhibition space in Hall 6 of IFEMA MADRI, it will also benefit from connections with Fruit Attraction.

Head buyers from supermarket chains from around the world will attend the event and learn about the variety of refrigerated transportation and logistical options available in the fresh produce supply chain.

At the gathering, there will also be the third Fresh Food Logistics Summit. Agustin Planells, Deputy Commercial Director and Director of Logistics at ANECOOP; ngel Rubio, Head of Supply Chain at COVAP; Pedro Becerril, Director of Logistics at Ultracongelados Virto; and Santiago Navarro, Director of Logistics at Delfin will provide their perspectives. The event is sponsored by Alimarket and is titled “New cold logistics challenges: Resources for coping with the paradigm shift” (Logialcor).
