Restaurant Review: La Niña Plates Up Bold, Beautiful Flavours

Stepping into La Niña feels like entering a captivating storybook where the rich cultures of Iberian and Latino traditions come together in perfect harmony. The evening began with the reopening of the terrace, setting the stage for an unforgettable dining experience, complete with a passionate flamenco performance by Eduardo Guerrero. From the first bite, it was clear that La Niña wasn't just meeting expectations—it was exceeding them in every way.

A Delicious Start

The evening kicked off with olivas marinadas + pan de casa—warm, house-baked bread paired with a smoky chili butter that was comforting and full of flavour. As the first dish arrived, it set the tone for what was to come: bold, unique flavours served with care and creativity.

Next up was the ensalada Niña: a vibrant salad filled with fresh greens, roasted corn, and Cotija cheese. The simple, yet delicious combination was a perfect start, highlighting the restaurant’s knack for elevating familiar ingredients into something extraordinary.

A Journey of Flavours

The tartar de atún was a delightful surprise. Yellowfin tuna, drizzled with a habanero-truffle dressing, was silky smooth with a subtle heat that awakened the senses. The addition of crunchy rice crisps added the perfect textural contrast, making it a dish that balanced freshness and spice beautifully.

Another standout was the bolinhos de bacalhau, crispy cod fritters served with saffron mojo and olive oil aioli. These fried delights were packed with flavour and comfort, the kind of dish you could happily snack on all evening.

The Showstopper: Coca de Trufa

But it was the coca de trufa that truly stole the show. A crisp base, layered with creamy Mahón cheese, rich wagyu coppa, and bursts of sweetness from roasted grapes, this dish was an explosion of flavours. It was one of those dishes you’ll think about long after your meal ends, as each bite delivered a perfect balance of savoury and sweet.

Mains That Wow

For mains, the Salmón Al Josper was a revelation. Perfectly smoky salmon, enhanced with the sweetness of achiote honey and a creamy poblano sauce, created a balanced dish that was both comforting and vibrant. Paired with a side of Romesco broccolini, the nutty twist added freshness and depth, making it a standout plate.

Then came the Frango Piri-Piri: lime-brined baby chicken, perfectly charred and juicy, drizzled with a smooth coriander crema that brought everything together. This dish packed zesty, bold flavours, proving once again that La Niña knows how to create unforgettable meals.

A Sweet Finish

To end the meal on a sweet note, the flan arrived with a surprising twist—Manchego cheese in a dessert? Yes, and it worked beautifully. The flan, rich and creamy with a delicate caramel and guava topping, was daring yet delicious. It was the perfect conclusion to an evening that felt as much like an adventure as it did a meal.

An Experience Beyond Dining

La Niña isn’t just a restaurant; it’s an exploration of bold flavours, cultural storytelling, and exceptional culinary craftsmanship. Whether it's your first visit or your fifth, the restaurant offers a reminder that food, when done right, can be as soulful as it is satisfying. From the first bite to the last, La Niña promises an unforgettable dining experience, blending tradition and innovation in every dish.
