Dubai Marina's vibrant waterfront has long been a bustling hub for locals and tourists alike. While the Marina Walk offers plenty of scenic views and trendy spots, it’s lacked a truly memorable culinary destination — until now. District 8, a multi-concept venue on the promenade, brings a fresh and exciting dining experience to the area with its eclectic trio of restaurants. One of the most noteworthy, Blume, is a Mediterranean eatery on the ground floor, offering a combination of vibrant decor and delicious dishes that are quickly becoming the talk of the town.
Where to Sit and What to Expect at Blume
As you walk into District 8, the hustle and bustle of the Marina Walk fades away. Blume’s lush greenery, maximalist decor, and warm lighting create an inviting and intimate atmosphere. The large central bar stands as a striking centerpiece, and the layout is designed to make diners feel like they are in a cozy oasis. Although some might argue the space feels a bit tight, the overall vibe is undeniably charming.
We opted for a table on Blume’s Marina-facing terrace, and the view of the yachts docked along the water was nothing short of peaceful. The restaurant offers various seating arrangements perfect for couples, families, and even corporate groups. For those wanting to make the most of District 8’s offerings, it’s easy to pair a starter at Blume with a main course at Rodina, the fine dining Russian restaurant upstairs. The restaurants are connected by a whimsical lift and a red-carpeted spiral staircase, adding a touch of cinematic elegance.
The Menu: A Culinary Journey Through Eurasia
Blume’s menu takes inspiration from the ancient Eurasian Silk Road, offering an array of dishes that combine Mediterranean flavors with other cultural influences. It can be a bit overwhelming to choose from, so we turned to our knowledgeable server for recommendations.
The Asian Chicken Salad (Dh75) was a standout dish. A flavor-packed start to the meal, it featured tender chicken strips, crispy wonton skins, and a rich sesame sauce that brought everything together. It’s definitely on the richer side, so it may not suit those who prefer a lighter salad.
For sushi lovers, the Philadelphia Maki (Dh115) delivers a delightful fusion of fresh salmon, cream cheese, and caviar — a true umami punch in every bite. Another excellent option for seafood lovers is the crispy calamari (Dh55), which is perfectly golden and tender.
For our main course, we opted for the rib-eye steak (Dh395), served on a slab of Himalayan pink salt. The steak was cooked to perfection, retaining its heat beautifully, and the side of grilled asparagus with wafu sauce (Dh55) complemented the meat wonderfully. The sizzling effect of the small fire pit that accompanied the steak made it an exciting, interactive experience. The French fries (Dh35) were crispy and comforting, a great addition to the meal.
Dessert: The Perfect Ending
For dessert, we indulged in the baked Alaska (Dh60), a whimsical and delightful treat. The torched meringue dome was delicate, and the contrast in textures — warm on the outside, cool on the inside — made it a fun dish to share.
Save or Splurge?
Blume offers a wide range of options, catering to both budget-conscious diners and those looking for a more extravagant experience. A three-course meal can cost between Dh135 and Dh670, excluding caviar. If you’re feeling indulgent, dishes like the Wagyu Sando (Dh320) and octopus with chimichurri sauce (Dh190) are worth trying. However, there are also more affordable options like the chicken tso (Dh75) and David Herve oyster (Dh35) that won’t break the bank. And for those who want to splurge, caviar is on the menu, with prices ranging from Dh950 to Dh3,500.
Conclusion: An Unforgettable Dining Experience
Blume at District 8 offers a dynamic and elevated Mediterranean dining experience in Dubai Marina. From the vibrant decor and picturesque views to the eclectic menu that spans continents, this restaurant truly hits the spot. Whether you’re out for a casual dinner with friends or an intimate evening with a loved one, Blume promises to deliver both delicious food and a memorable atmosphere.
